Utilities
We recommend reaching out to your utility providers to let them know of the upcoming move. Gas, electrical, phone/cable/Internet and alarm companies are the main ones. Simply let each know that you would like services to end on the day of closing and you will be set.
Please click on the links below that apply to you to visit each utility company’s webpage on ‘moving’ to set-up.
You will not be able to start this process until the lawyer submits a letter at closing to the City of Toronto Revenue services. Then you will be able to request the mailing address change and final meter reading.
Enercare / Alternative Utility Provider
If your water tank is owned, not rented, you will not need to set up an account.
Change of Address
This is just a heads up about some things you will need to change your address for now that you are moving! Overall, we suggest allowing one month to completely change over the address for each of the items listed.
Driver’s license, health cards, insurance
Employer, doctor, dentist
Mail (to make this transition easier you can get Canada Post to forward your mail. Click here to set that up.)
Any subscriptions (meal kits, magazines, etc.)
Memberships and charities
Bank accounts, credit cards, and tax office (Canada Revenue Agency)
